Emerging Spaces is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Sydney. Founded by Beatriz Peña and Gemma Peña - twin sisters, different personalities, but similar passion: architecture, design, beautiful things, travel and motherhood.
Having spent the last 10 years abroad, time has finally brought us together in Sydney to realize a long talked about dream of starting a studio that focuses on creating spaces that emerge and grow with client's needs. It is our experiences that differentiates us, but our passion for design that brings us together.
Ex Crawford Architects, Lend Lease and industry consultant, Gemma has more than 15 years of Australian & international design and project management experience, ranging from the London 2012 Athletes Village, to the design and construction of a range of high-end residential projects across Sydney waterfront suburbs.
She has a BA in Arts, BA in Architecture and a Masters of Project Management from the University of Technology, Sydney, and is passionate about the delivery of projects that meet clients’ needs and are integrated seamlessly into the environment.
Her approach is always specific to the site, drawing the principles for design from the site context, climate and people’s use.
Beatriz has more than 15 years of architecture and project management industry experience. She has worked in Australia and USA across a breadth of projects ranging from high-end residential, mixed-use and commercial developments. Prior to co-founding Emerging Spaces, Beatriz worked for a number of architecture and construction management firms on projects such as the Darwin Convention Centre, regional Woolworths Marketplace developments as well as commercial projects in downtown San Francisco.
Beatriz holds a BA in Arts and a BA in Architecture with Honours from the University of Technology, Sydney. Beatriz prides herself on bringing a hands-on approach to every project; her work is driven by a passion for delivering finely crafted spaces that are sensitive to context, are sustainable and meet client brief. Her desire is to create built form that enriches the lives of the occupants.
